LEMAIRE HANNAM
8-3 DAESAGWAN-RO 11-GIL, YONGSAN-GU
FROM MONDAY TO SUNDAY
11AM TO 8PM
For its first flagship store outside of Paris, LEMAIRE has chosen a two-story Korean house built in the 1970s, nestled in the Hannam district of Seoul.
The 230-square-meter boutique opened its doors on November 24th, 2023.
LEMAIRE HAS FOUND ITS NEW HOME IN HANNAM, A DISTRICT WHERE EMBASSIES AND ART GALLERIES RUB SHOULDERS.
The boutique is set amidst a sprawling garden enclosed by a timeless brick wall.
« We are pleased to introduce a new space that embodies LEMAIRE's values and epitomizes our profound esteem for Korean culture », share Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran, LEMAIRE’s artistic directors. « This flagship has a domestic dimension that blurs the boundaries between home and boutique, in harmony with our collections, which aim to enrich everyday life. »
The boutique showcases local craftsmanship curated by LEMAIRE hand in hand with Korean architect and designer Lim Taehee from LTH Studio. Her practice, bridging traditional craft and modern architectural design, lends vernacular character to the spaces.
Inside, the walls are adorned with Hanji paper and the rooms feature lacquered furnishings and padded Nubi curtains that let in a gentle play of natural light conferring to the boutique a reassuring and welcoming atmosphere.
In Hannam, the curious visitor will find furniture designed by Enzo Mari and crafted using local woods…
…As well as abaca mats, bejmat tiles and Freud’s couch.
... These elements weave a common thread between LEMAIRE’s flagships.
Brought together, these accents reminiscent of the LEMAIRE signature fixtures, create an intimate ambiance that is completely unique. In Hannam, LEMAIRE has found another new home for its enduring dedication to infusing design with emotional depth and crafting a distinctive blend of diverse influences that mirror its collections.
MAKING OFF
Hanji is a paper made from the inner bark of mulberry trees. « As a natural and humble material, Hanji has a discreet presence as well as an amazing ability to envelop its surroundings while bringing a subtle warm touch », adds Lim Taehee, the architect and designer who curated hand in hand with LEMAIRE the local craftsmanship shown in the flagship store.
Hanji is first glued…
...Then stick to the walls of the different rooms.
LEMAIRE HANNAM DEDICATED PLAYLIST
For the opening of LEMAIRE HANNAM, a dedicated playlist called AMOUREUSE was curated, delving into French songs and a universal feeling: love. Combining influences and paying tribute to cult French musicians, this playlist invites the visitors to a post-geographic journey of exploration that extend beyond time.
